Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha Review:

Hometown Cha-cha-cha is one of the most anticipated Korean dramas on Netflix 2021. This Kdrama enjoying commercial success and has one of the highest rated Korean drama series on cable television.

Let’s see if it is worth the hype. We get intro to the lead couple who are in their early middle age (like their actual age) but are opposite to each other in every way possible. Chief Hong is a jack of all trades who works for minimal wages, while Hye-jin is smart city bed doctor, who loves to spend on expensive shoes and branded clothes.

Hye-jin tries to fit in with the locals in the town of Gongjin. It is not exactly an easy task, as they are all unique! This support cast is a big handful of characters who have their own story to tell. The locals are, of course nosy and curious to meet the pretty and fancy dentist. But very friendly and welcome Hye jin. The initial episodes will keep the viewers well occupied with stress free screenplay.

The setting of the town Gongjin, has a big role to play in the success of this Korean drama. This imaginary town is set in the city of Pohang, located in the North Gyeongsang province of South Korea. City of Pohang now has people flocking into town to check out the shooting locations! You will marvel the beautiful beaches and landscape of this small town. There are homes that are set on the beach side. It looks natural and simply out of a romance novel.

Chief Hong’s house is on the shore of a lake. His home interiors are in total contrast to the simple looking exteriors.

The one and off romance between gets the heat up with the entry of the second lead. TV show producer Ji Seong hyun, played by Lee Sang yi. His characterisation is warm and friendly. So, when he proposes to his old love, college junior Hye jin, she finds it tough to give him an answer. Chief Hong and Seong hyun also end up becoming good friends! Apparently their interactions further make it a heart-warming watch.

Shin Min ah dazzles as a model( even today, with her trendy outfits from some of the best international brands.

There are multiple stories of the support characters that showcase almost every important event in our lives – childbirth, love proposal, death of a loved one, single parenting, and so on. The story of the teenager gushing over a KPOP group with name DOS is cute and so relatable to the KPOP fangirling worldwide. There is a small story of a one-sided LGBT character, that has especially been conveyed well.

The episodes towards the end wrap the entire Korean drama series neatly

What did Hometown Cha Cha Cha miss?

The plot is simple and a great stress buster, even though its very predictable. Especially, if you are a regular Korean drama watcher you will find the later episodes drag as there is not much of a story for the main leads!

Surprisingly, the support characters’ storyline is executed better and offers something new.

Kim Seon Ho is adorable as the humble hero who knows a lot of jobs, but it gets overboard at times. His knowledge band that supposedly spreads from gardening, cooking, painting, carpentry, tutoring to surfing makes him seem like a living Wikipedia! Kim Seon Ho’s character seems to take his “good boy” image from Start Up Korean drama to the next level! There are a lot of references that reminds us of Start Up Kdrama as well.

There is a reference made of automatic cars. Then the scene where Kim Seon Ho literally grabs food from Lee Sang yi, because Shin Min ha tells him to take care of Lee Sang yi. Shin Min Ha is made to look clingy once their relationship takes off. It is difficult to comprehend how a smart independent woman suddenly starts behaving like a teenager!

The Verdict

If you are a Kim Seon Ho fan, then Hometown Cha Cha Cha Kdrama is a must watch for you! Fans have been waiting for his debut as a main lead in a Kdrama and have been served just that. Again, if you are looking for a light Kdrama, and a totally easy watch, then Hometown Cha Cha Cha Korean drama emerges a total winner! It is worthy of a onetime watch.

If you are new to Korean drama, we could not recommend you a better to start your Kdrama journey. For regular Korean drama watcher, Hometown Cha Cha Cha Kdrama is like tasting good old mom’s food. You could never just get bored of it!
